The loss of a cherished loved one is the most devastating experiences a family can face. At times, the loss may seem unbearable. Please know that there are people who care and more importantly Psalm 34:18 tells us that "God is near to those that are broken at heart. He is the God of all comfort. Our prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time of grief.

For nine years our organization, Digital Arts Film & Television, hosted a weeklong residential summer workshop in animation. Ruth was in the first class because she wanted to learn a new skill to bring back to her students. She returned every year after that to enhance her skills and then to work on personal projects after she retired. We soon learned what an amazing artist she was – her drawings are exquisite and her tenacity and focus became near legendary. Sometimes we’d hardly see her all day as she worked in her room/studio emerging to join us for a meal or a beer on the porch by the lake. We also learned what a passionate and articulate supporter of the arts and education she was. We have lost a supremely talented artist whose gentle sense of humor, love of nature and dedication to the arts and education were hallmarks of a life well lived. On behalf of DAFT, we extend our deepest sympathy and thanks for the time we had with Ruth.

Ms. Prince was a huge inspiration for me. She is the reason why I became an art teacher. She believed in me more than I believed in myself at that age. I have been teaching elementary art in the Troy School District for 14 years and think of her often. She will be missed but never forgotten by her students.

From one of her "Garden of Students," Ruth (Ms. Prince) was my teacher, mentor, colleague, friend, and inspiration. She will be remembered with love! May you find peace amid the beauty she created and solace in knowing how many lives she touched. She truly created a garden everlasting.

Mrs. Prince was my favorite teacher (class of 1990). She was so supportive and inspiring. I was lucky to be in a few of her art classes and her first photography class in which she helped me experiment with different techniques. Such a great person, she will be greatly missed.

Ms. Prince and the art room were my favorite parts of high school. I spents as many hours there as possible and she encouraged all my crazy, I mean creative, ideas. She will be greatly missed. She was a wonderful person.

I met Ruth at the Art in Motion Animation camp. She was such a lovely woman and such a talented inspiration. Her dedication to her art and the story she was telling was unrivaled. She would sequester herself in her room and threw herself into her project but always welcomed visitors. She was so gracious.
I visited her house once with a couple of friends and was stunned by the beauty of her flower garden. It reminded me of a story called Miss Rumphis by Barbara Cooney. It was about a woman who traveled the world to do the one thing her grandfather told her to do: make the world more beautiful. Ruth certainly did this. She brought light and color to the lives she touched.

Ken, though I never knew your wife the couple of times I met her I was impressed. Nothing I can say will help with the heartache through this time in your life. One reason the song Precious Memories is so popular.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Ms. Prince was such a bright star during my time at Fremont High School. She truly shaped the person I am today and I've thought of her often since graduating. I'm reminded of her art history class anytime I see great art and can still hear her voice.

Ken and family,

So sorry to hear about Ruth. I remember going to kindergarten my very first day and being scared. But there was Ruth and she started talking and made me feel better. As a kid with a gap still in my teeth, I went home that night and told my mom and dad that "Wuff Wolting" was my best friend. I will always remember her as the kind, funny person that she was.

Ruth's passing leaves me filled with sorrow, but also reminds me of the knowledge of, the importance of, and love for art she imparted upon all of those- myself included- who were fortunate enough to have her as a teacher.
Not only was she a gifted artist, but a gifted teacher, as well. I feel blessed to have been her student from the time she started at the Jr. High until I graduated.
Thank you Ruth for sharing your love and knowledge; thank you to the Prince family for sharing Ruth with all of us. She will be missed.

One of the many things Ruth and I shared during our careers at Fremont High School was the belief that a complete individual must have “a skilled hand, an educated mind and a cultured eye.” Ruth did her best to teach by that principle. The profession has lost a great teacher and we all have lost a great friend.
