Russell B. Jewett

Russell B. Jewett, age 74, of Hart, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at home.  He was born September 26, 1943 in Cheboygan Michigan to Bert and Florence (Charbonneau) Jewett.

Russ and his family moved from Cheboygan to Pentwater while he and his siblings were young.  He graduated from Pentwater High School and worked as a police officer with the Shelby Police Department until about 1972.  Leaving the police force, he then worked on “the boats” on Lake Michigan and the Great Lakes and later as a Merchant Marine on the oceans around the world.  After retiring from the Merchant Marines, Russ returned to the area in 1987 and became a corrections officer for the Oceana County Sheriff's Department.  He was a long-time member of the Oceana Sheriff's Reserve and served several years in his career as a probation officer.  

Russ had a passion for motorcycles and a love for friends.  He often combined the two with long motorcycle rides with his friends, his brother Richard, and Janice.  He loved riding over the Mackinac Bridge into the upper peninsula stopping along the way to enjoy the friendship, the sights, and some homemade butter pecan ice cream.

Russ is survived by his wife, Janice; his daughters, Yvonne Jewett (Robin) Edgerly, Michele Jewett (Eric) Eerdmans, and Lisa Patterson (Jeremy) Griffin; and his nine grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bernard, Dale and Richard Jewett; his sister, Gail Guetzka; and by his son, Terry Patterson.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 10th, 10 am until the service at 11 am at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby with Pastor Brian England officiating.
