Ronald W. Piper, age 80, of Muskegon and formerly of Hart, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 in Muskegon. Ron was born February 14, 1938 in Muskegon to Earl and Gertrude (Hudson) Piper. He married Kay Post on October 1, 1964. She passed away in 1979. Ron lived in Muskegon for a few years before moving to Shelby. He entered the Navy in 1958 and served on the U.S.S. Farragut in waters across the globe including off shore Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He lived in Hart Township for many years. Ron was employed by the Oceana County Road Commission and was also a fruit farmer. He moved to Norton Shores in 2011. Ron loved to spend time with his grandkids and enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed mechanical challenges like building forklifts and working on and modifying tractors. Ron attended New Hope Community Church.
He is survived by his son, Scott (Kim) Piper; grandsons, Scott and Ben Piper; his brother, Earl "Jim" Piper; his sister, Lorraine Spears; nieces, Diane (Chuck) Schultz, Lisa (Brian) Piper-German and Lori Piper; and his nephew, Ken Spears. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Kay.
Visitation is Wednesday, June 20th, 10 am with the funeral service to follow at 11 am at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby with Pastor Tony Holmes-Curran officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to New Hope Community Church, 244 S. 79th Avenue, Shelby, MI 49455.
