Robert C. Wright

Robert C. Wright, age 87, of Shelby, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 5, 2018.  Bob was born May 14, 1931 in Muskegon  to Charles and Eleanor (Phillips) Wright.  He moved to Shelby at the age of six.  He was a 1949 graduate of Shelby High School.  Bob met Carol Loew when she visited his church (Shelby Wesleyan).  They were married on May 19, 1952 in Byron Center.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Colorado, Louisiana and Puerto Rico.

He returned home to Shelby after his military service where he and Carol raised their family.  Bob was employed by the Howmet Corporation for thirty-three years, retiring in 1987. After retirement, Bob worked part-time at Harris Funeral Home.  He was a long-time member of the Shelby Wesleyan Church where he was the youth leader in the 1960's,  taught Sunday School for several decades and was the hymn leader.  Bob also had served on the Shelby School Board and was a member of the Oceana Historical Society.  

He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Carol; his children, MarJean Farr of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Rosalyn Wright and her husband, Michael Bastian of Norton Shores and Brian Wright of Otsego; grandchildren, Tim Farr, Elizabeth Hummel and Kristyn Zrenda; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law,  Shirley and Russell Hayes of Flushing, Michigan and brother-in-law, Robert Starrett of Dover, Delaware.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother, Larry; his sister, Carolyn Starrett; and brother, Richard Wright. 

Visitation is Saturday, July 7th from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby and also on Sunday, July 8th, from 1 to 2 pm at Shelby Wesleyan Church.  The funeral service will be held Sunday  2 pm at the church.  Pastor Todd Deuling  will officiate.  Interment will be in Salem Township Cemetery, Burnips, Michigan on Monday at 11 am.  Memorials to Moody Radio, 820 N.
