Rica M. Fekken

Rica M. Fekken, age 94, of New Era, went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Poppen Residence under hospice care.  She was born May 24, 1923 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She was raised in Montague and moved to New Era upon her marriage to Francis Fekken on November 17, 1939.

Rica and Francis lived in the same house all their married life.  They were charter members of New Era Bible Church and Rica was very active as the pianist and organist for many years.  She enjoyed spending winters in Zephyrhills, Florida for many years.  Rica adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Ruthann) Fekken and Janice (Arthur) Ash, both of New Era; grandchildren, Jay Fekken, Steven (Heidi) Ash, Julie (Gary) Howell and Lee (Carolyn) Ash; great-grandchildren, Amy (Jeff) Nelson, Lindy (Bradley) Whitney, Rebecca (Nathan) Gale, Casey (Kristina) Ash, Kyle (Chrissy) Ash, Austin Ash, Brandon Ash and Cameron Ash; great-great-grandchildren, Kendal Ash, Reagan Whitney, Emery Gale and Lucas Nelson; and brother-in-law, Raymond Fekken.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis on November 25, 2012; great-granddaughter, Bethany Grace Browand; and parents, Peter and Jennie Hamm.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 27 beginning at 2 pm until the funeral service at 3 pm at Rothbury Community Church with Pastor Bob Sponable officiating.  Memorials may be directed to Harbor Hospice, 1050 W.
