Phillip "Chuck" Persenaire

Phillip C. "Chuck" Persenaire, age 83, of Silver Lake, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 in Muskegon.  Chuck was born June 3, 1935 in Roseland, Illinois to Phillip and Agnes (Dozema) Persenaire.

He was raised in Roseland and married Phyllis Evers on September 6, 1957.  He worked as a carpenter before entering the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea.  He served from 1958 to 1960.  Chuck was a co-owner of Evers Office Supply with his father-in-law in Alsip, Illinois for many years.  He moved to Palos Heights, Illinois in 1965 and then to Silver Lake in 1982.

He owned and operated Cal-Van's Honda in Hart.  Later, he operated the Country General Store in New Era before becoming the director of the Oceana Economic Development Corporation.  Chuck's last job was part-time at Double JJ Resort in human resources.

He was a former member of the Hart Rotary Club and had served on the board and as a volunteer at Love, INC.  He also enjoyed volunteering at the Ladder Community Center.  While Chuck enjoyed work and volunteering throughout his life, he enjoyed the time with his family the most and will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a great story teller.  

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his children, Kimberly (Craig) Phillips,  Chuck (Misty) Persenaire and Sharon (Eric) Rayle; his grandchildren, David (Becky) Phillips, Mark (Sarah) Phillips, Michael (Megan) Persenaire, Laura (Kyle) Metdepenningen, Bethany Henion and Tommy Henion;  great-grandchildren, Eli, Cohen, Aniston and Laelyn Phillips; and his sister, Donna (John deceased) Leo.  

He was also preceded in death by his parents; his daughter-in-law, Joy Persenaire; sisters, Betty (Conrad deceased) Douma, Dorothy (Wendell surviving) Yonker, Phyllis (John deceased) Groot, Jean (John surviving) Rosier and June (Earl deceased) Wolff.

Visitation is Thursday, January 10th, 12 Noon at New Era Reformed Church.  The memorial service will follow at 1 pm also at the church with Rev. Jim Wolff and Rev. Rick Eschenburg officiating.  Interment will be in Mears Cemetery.  Memorials to the Ladder Community Center, 67 N. State Street, Shelby, MI  49455 are appreciated.
