Patricia Ann Fanberg

August 17, 1946 ~ February 5, 2018 (age 71)


Patricia Ann Fanberg, age 71, of Shelby, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 5, 2018.  She was born August 17, 1946 in Muskegon.  Pat was raised in Muskegon Heights and graduated from Muskegon Heights High School.  

She  married  John Fanberg on June 20, 1970 and moved to her current home in Benona Township.   She and John taught at Whitehall High School.  Pat and John lived in Mexico for a year and Puerto Rico for a year where they taught English As A Second Language classes.  They returned home and  Pat was employed at the Muskegon County Health Department for nearly twenty years, retiring as the Substance Abuse Prevention Director.  Pat received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Western Michigan University.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Pat was an avid traveler.  She was passionate about her church, the environment, politics, gardening, her family and her pets (but not necessarily in that order).  She is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, John; her children, Dr. Judy (Ken) Hiemenga-Hopper, John (Lisa) Fanberg, Dr. Julie (Tim) Felt and Vonda (Mike) Sillman; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Swanlund, David (and fiancé, Ashley) Hiemenga, Shannon Fanberg, Anya Fanberg, Helene (Mike) Ramsey, Tricia (Brett) Anderson, Leigha Sillman and Chloe Sillman; her great-grandchildren, Bayle Hiemenga, Taylor Hiemenga, Breckin Huizenga, Parker Hoffman, Katie Ramsey and Myles Anderson;  many nieces and nephews and exchange students, Paola Omini of Milan, Italy and Roberta Ninzolli of São Paulo, Brazil.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Jenny V. Rose; her brothers, Harold and Raymond Terpstra; and her son-in-law, Stan Hiemenga.

Visitation is Friday, February 9th, 6-9 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby.  The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 10th, 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5631 W. Stony Lake Road, New Era with Pastor Sarah Samuelson officiating.  Please consider the Trinity Lutheran Food Pantry c/o the church, as a memorial.
