Matthew "Matt" D. Norman

Matthew "Matt" D. Norman, age 59, of Mears, passed away at home on March 3, 2019.  Matt was born April 21, 1959 in Monroe, Michigan to Walter "Harv" and Samuella "Sam" (Smith) Norman.

Matt was a very outdoors type of man.  His favorite past times were hunting, fishing and turtle trapping with his brother, Pat.  He loved to take nature walks and collect little keepsakes with his grandchildren. Paw Paw Matt spent many days tinkering around and showing them different things he learned throughout his life.  His greatest joy in life was taking Trevor, Ryleigh and Nshika stomping in the creeks and being their "partner in crime".  Matt's motto to them was "if it wasn't dangerous it wasn't fun". 

Matt leaves behind Theresa Schaner, his soulmate of twenty years; his children, Bobbi Mason of Ypsilanti, James Norman and Richard (Danielle) Norman of Mississippi; brothers, Pat (Deb) Norman of Mears and Tim Norman of Kansas; sisters, Cindy Riggs of Mears and Colleen (Bill) Elvey of Ohio; nieces, Michelle (Deric) Riggs, Erin Riggs, Sabrina Norman, Gabrielle (Brian) Norman and Megan (Zach) Manor; nephews, Thomas (Rachael) Norman, Austin (Keri) Manor and Jake Norman; stepchildren, Billy (Jennifer) Mason, Bobby (Kayla) King, Caleb (April) Smith and Jessica Burch; twenty grandchildren; and many more nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

According to Matt's wishes, there will be no funeral service.  His wish is to have one hell of a party with a bonfire, music and lots of laughter.   This will be announced at a later date.  We extend a special thank you to Harbor Hospice and Little Traverse Bay Hospice.  Memorial contributions can be made c/o Harris Funeral Home, Shelby to help with expenses.
