Kenneth "Joe" Foster Obituary

Kenneth E. "Joe" Foster, age 92, of Mears, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 in Grand Haven.  Joe was born April 2, 1926 in Veedersburg, Indiana to John and Ruth (Sutton) Foster.  He lived in Attica, Indiana until moving to White Cloud, Michigan  as a freshman in high school.  He married Coleen Johnson on August 25, 1946.  She passed away August 15, 2006.  For many years, Joe and Coleen enjoyed splitting their time between the family home in White Cloud and at their cottage at Juniper Beach which became their full-time home in the early 1990's.  

Joe was a World War II Navy veteran.  He served in the Pacific Theater.  He was the P.G.A. Golf Professional at the Oceana Country Club for twenty-seven years from its inception until his  retirement in 1991.  Joe was a member of the Professional Golfers Association of America.  In his retirement, Joe enjoyed golf, cooking, baking, bingo and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was a member of Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ, the Masonic Lodge in White Cloud and the Oceana Eagles. 

He is survived by his children, Timothy (Luanne) Foster of Cumming, Georgia, Tami (Rick) Hall of Nunica and Thomas (Lisa) Foster of Spring Lake; his grandchildren, Shannon Foster, Evan Foster, Ashley (Rick) Phillips, Joel (Dinah) Hall, Kimberlee Hall, Kyle (Debbie) Hall, Kelli (Jay) Blanchard, Jason Foster, Cory Foster, Jared Foster, Melissa Courtney and Ian Courtney; fourteen great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gene and Joan Johnson, Joan (Dean deceased) Johnson,  Colin and Lorene Pharr, Twyla Foster and Gloria Foster.  Besides his wife, Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son, Stephen; and brothers, William and Charles Foster.

Visitation is Thursday, April 19th, 4-7 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby.  The funeral service will be held Friday, April 20th, 1 pm at Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Dan Barnum-Steggerda officiating.  Interment will be in White Cloud Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joe Foster Junior Golf Fund to benefit junior golf in Oceana County and the Lakeshore area.
