Janet Barber Obituary

Janet Kay Barber (nee Tate), age 58, of Hart and formerly of Shelby, passed away peacefully with family at her side on April 8, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon following her courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 15, 1959 in Shelby to Max N. Tate and Patricia A. (Lewis) Tate, the youngest of four children.  Janet had been employed as a cook at several area restaurants over the years.  She enjoyed her cats, gardening, and family and friend events.  Janet was a member of Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ, The Lakeside Ladies Red Hat Society, Oceana County Women's Bowling League and the VFW Auxiliary in Hart.  She graduated from Shelby High School with the Class of 1978.

Janet is survived by her mother, Patricia Tate; her sisters, Peggy Vallier and Ruth Burmeister; nephew, Curtis (Tricia) Vallier and their children, Anneliesa, Miley and Jaycee Vallier; niece, Brittney (Casey) Singer and their son, Alexander Singer.  

Janet was preceded in death by her father, Max N. Tate; brother, Paul E. Tate; and grandparents, Ivan and Hazel Lewis, Lavant and Esther Pickens and Nila Tate.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 28th, 10 am at Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ with the memorial service to follow at 11 am at the church with Pastor Dan Barnum-Steggerda officiating.  A luncheon will immediately follow the service at church.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Shelby.  Memorials for family expenses are appreciated.
