Irene P. Harris

Irene P. Harris, child of God, was called home to heaven on Monday, July 23, 2018 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.  She was born in Shelby to Carl and Mattie (Johnson) Schroeder.  Irene graduated from Shelby High School in 1941. After high school she moved to Muskegon where she attended business school.

Irene worked at Continental Motors before becoming a secretary at Lee Funeral Home in Muskegon Heights. She met William F. Harris there,  and they were married on September 18, 1954 and then made their first home together in Grand Rapids.  In 1961 they returned to Shelby, Irene's hometown, where they raised their family and began their work  at Cooper-Harris Funeral Home. They were members of  Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hart. 

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Bill on August 30, 2016. She is survived  by her children, Pat (Tim) Johnson and Lisa (Allen) Sorum, both of Wisconsin, and Bill (Helga) Harris of Shelby; grandchildren, Jerry (Lisa) Johnson, Paul (Moriah) Johnson, Lee Johnson, Charis (Michael) Meyer, Nathanael (Linzi) Sorum, Micah (Erica) Sorum, Ana (Michael) Cherney, Heidi (Dave) Tatlock, and Megan Harris; great-grandchildren, Griffin, Violet, and Caleb Meyer,  Evelyn, Myles, and Josiah Sorum, and Gideon Cherney; her brother-in-law, Ed Blake; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Loyal Schroeder; and sisters, Evelyn Greer, Bernadine Neuman, and Ruth Blake.

Visitation is Sunday, July 29th, 5-7 pm at Harris Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held Monday, July 30th, 11 am at the funeral home with  Pastor Richard Miller officiating.  Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Shelby.   Memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2087 N.
