Gordon L. Diepen

Gordon L. Diepen, age 79, of Muskegon and formerly of New Era, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2019 at home.  He was born May 13, 1940 in Shelby to Fred and Janet (Grinwis) Diepen.

Gord married Sally Hansen on August 12, 1960.  He served in the United States Air Force for four years beginning in 1960.  He was employed at Dupont Corporation for many years before his retirement.  He spent thirteen years in his retirement job at Country Dairy doing field work and truck driving.  He was a longtime member of New Era Reformed Church.

Gord enjoyed camping and following the Detroit Lions.  He very much enjoyed following his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities and especially enjoyed helping his grandson, Eric with horses.  

He is survived by his wife, Sally; his daughters, Lisa (Alan) Parker and Lynne (Rick) Fuller; daughter-in-law, Robin Diepen Hindley (and Don); his grandchildren, Joshua (Visishta) Boeringa, Samantha Boeringa (Angel Tracey), Erin (Jayson) Nicholas, Eric Felt, Adam Felt (Cara Darke), Callie Mahan, Kevin Diepen, Leslie Diepen, Michael (Jen) Fuller and Mark Fuller; sixteen great-grandchildren; his sisters, Wendy Smith and Nancy Gabaldon; brother-in-law, Adrian Gabaldon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rev. Gary and June Ann Hansen; many nieces and nephews, and special friend and caregiver, Seana Vela.  Gord was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kevin Diepen and his father-in-law and mother-in-law,  Lester and Caroline Hansen (Morse).

Visitation is Tuesday, July 9th 2-4 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby.  The funeral service will be held Tuesday, 7 pm at New Era Reformed Church with Rev. Scott VanArendonk officiating.  Interment will be in New Era Cemetery.  Please consider the New Era Reformed Church India Project or the Shelby Area District Library as a memorial.
