Frank Mitteer Obituary

Frank Mitteer, age 90, of Hart, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at home.  He was born January 27, 1928 in Hart, the son of Lester and Dorothy (France) Mitteer.  He married Leta Wyns on June 10, 1949 and moved to Shelby where he resided until 1978.  Frank worked at Howmet and Dresser Crane and Hoist.  The Mitteers moved to Pawleys Island South Carolina where he worked in Georgetown and then to  Wilmington, North Carolina where he lived and worked.  They  returned  to Oceana County and Hart in 1989.

Frank was a World War II era Navy veteran.  He served in the Pacific from February of 1946 to December of 1947.  He was a member of the Gordon Bates Post #30 of the American Legion and was Past Commander.  He was also a Past Master of the Benona-Wigton Masonic Lodge.  Frank had been a member of the Shelby Optimist Club and the Shelby Recreation Club.  He enjoyed high school sports, attending countless games, music, bowling, golf, fishing, playing cards and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Leta; his children, Rebecca Mitteer Smith, Bruce D. Mitteer (and wife, Lorraine James Mitteer) and Martin Mitteer (and wife, Catherine Westbay Mitteer); his sister MaryAnn Mitteer Melican; grandchildren, Erik Smith (and wife, Kelcy Burns Smith),  Kathryn Smith Blair (and husband, Roger Blair), Michelle Mitteer Brunke (and husband, Scott Brunke), Nicole Mitteer Steely (and husband, Aaron Steely) and Rachel Grinestaff-Lawson (and husband, John Lawson); seven great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Mitteer; twin brother Francis Mitteer;  grandson, Jeremy Mitteer; and son-in-law, Donald Smith.  

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 12th, 10 am until the funeral service at 11 am at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Shelby.
