Evelyn M. Holladay

Evelyn M. Holladay, age 95, of Walkerville, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017 in Hart.  She was born July 17, 1922 in Crystal Township, the daughter of Eugene and Mina (Hornsby) Walker.  Evelyn married Francis T. Holladay on September 6, 1940.  She was fond of telling the story of their honeymoon consisting of a trip to the Oceana County Fair and hitting a skunk with their car on the way home!  

She was a long-time resident of Walkerville.  Evelyn had attended Elbridge Community Church.  She and her husband operated their centennial dairy farm for many years.  Francis and Evelyn's barn was built from  a Sears and Roebuck kit.  The lumber and kit arrived by railroad in Hart and the Holladays and their  neighbors had a barn raising to build it.  Evelyn enjoyed quilting with the Crystal Valley Methodist Women and babysitting her grandchildren.  

She is survived by her children, Harry (Nancy) Holladay, Bernice (Gerald) Shafer and Judy (John) Jacobs; her grandchildren, Ed (Theresa) Holladay, Brian (Michelle) Holladay, Neil (Nicole) Holladay, Keith (Gwendolyn) Holladay, Rusty (Teresa "Terri") Shafer, Christina "Christy" (Pete) Haven, Jackie (Jerry) Blodgett,  Jilleen (Daniel) Graber and John "J.T." Jacobs (and Dominique VandenHeuvel); twenty-seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Francis on August 29, 1999; her parents; her brothers, Charles, Vern, Harold, Carl, Lyle, Clifford, Donald, Robert, George and Chester Walker; and her sisters, Ester VanderVeen, Lucile Gorenflo, and Jenny Strong. 

Visitation is Wednesday, August 30th, 11 am with the funeral service to follow at twelve noon, both at Elbridge Community Church with Pastor Dennis Hintz officiating.  Interment will be in Hart Cemetery.  Memorials to the Crystal Valley Care Fund, P.O. Box 451, Hart, MI 49420 are appreciated.
