Eileen Buckmaster

Eileen Buckmaster, age 92, of Shelby, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart.  She was born December 11, 1924 in Mason County to Fred and Lenora (Pleiness) Mavis.

Eileen was raised in Mason County.  She married Robert Buckmaster on April 4, 1948.  She lived in Keego Harbor from 1951 to 1954 and Bay City for a few years before moving to Shelby in 1957.  Eileen was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church.  She had been employed as a receptionist for Dr. Davidson in Shelby in the early 1960's.  She and her husband operated Bob's Books and Bath in the Mini-Mall in Shelby for several years.  Eileen was the Shelby Township Treasurer before retiring in 1988.

Eileen enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling all across the United States with the Avion Trailer Club. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Near of Shelby; granddaughters, Stacy (Lee) Millard of Shelby and Brenda (Nathan) Murphy of Waldorf, Maryland; great-grandchildren, Allison Millard of Shelby and Makayla Murphy and Aiden Murphy both of Waldorf.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2009; son-in-law, Jim Near in 2015; and brothers, Russell and Lyle Mavis.

Visitation is Monday,  August 14th, 11 am with the funeral service to follow at Noon at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby with Pastor Paulette Zoulek officiating.  Interment will be in Riverton Cemetery.  Memorials to St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 7400 W.
