Douglas Lewis

Douglas C. "Doug" Lewis, age 94,  of New Era, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at home and is now with his Lord and Savior.   He was born on the farm where he currently lived, the son of Leonard and Ruth (Sundell) Lewis.  Doug married Lois Lindberg on December 3, 1949.  She passed away November 19, 2016.  

He graduated from Shelby High School in 1941 and Michigan State College of Agriculture in 1944.  He was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as a board member and  Sunday School teacher.  Mr. Lewis was a dairy farmer before retirement and a member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association.  He served on the Shelby Public Schools Board of Education for twenty-seven years.  He also worked as a courier for Shelby State Bank and transported cars for Meyer Chevrolet and was a relief school bus driver.   The family wishes to thank his caregivers, his grandson Scott and Angie and Malisha.  

Mr. Lewis is survived by his children, Sande (Jim) Borushko, Deb (Todd) Kraai, and Chuck (Sheila) Lewis; his grandchildren, Scott (Jen) Borushko, Jenny (Todd) Vandenheuvel, Matt Borushko (and wife, Phoebe Schroeder), Trav (Sceone) Kraai, Aaron (Margaret) Kraai and Kris (Jordain) Kraai; great-grandchildren, Ava, Mack, Lucy, Zane, Almira, Cami, Addie, Zach, Irey, and Prudence; his brother, Dale Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.  Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lowell Lewis; and sister, Betty Joan Weber. 

Visitation is Monday, November 20th, 6-8 pm at Harris Funeral Home and Tuesday, November 21st, 10 am until the funeral service at 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church west of New Era with Pastor Sarah Samuelson officiating.  Interment is in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 5631 W.
