Charlotte I. Bengtson, age 89, of Muskegon and formerly of Montague, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 24, 2019. She was born September 25, 1929 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the daughter of Clarence and Lucile (Kinion) Grupe.
Charlotte was raised in Scottsbluff and moved to Burlington, Iowa at the age of nineteen. She moved to Montague at the age of twenty-four. She shared three boys, Fred, Clarence and Ron with former spouse Fred Rudat.
She later married Leonard Bengston who passed away April 3, 2011. She was a teacher for forty-three years in Nebraska, Iowa and Michigan. Charlotte retired in 1994 from Montague Public Schools but kept involved as a concessions and ticket manager for the MHS. She loved to bake and worked part-time catering and as a baker at Cherry Point Market in Shelby. Charlotte was an avid fan of athletic programs at Montague High School and could be seen in the stands at events even after her eyesight was failing. Reading, gardening, painting, playing the piano and practical jokes were things she enjoyed. Most of all spending time helping others was her passion whether that was teaching or fostering children.
She is survived by her children, Frederick Rudat, Clarence Rudat and Ronald Rudat; her stepchildren, Gary (Candi) Bengtson and Sandra (Richard) Heaberlin; her grandson, Nicholas (Jordan) Bowne; step-grandchildren, Justin Bengtson, Kendra (Adam) Haluska, Brock (Nicolle) Bengtson, Andrew Heaberlin, Kyle Heaberlin and Blake Bengtson; special friend Sue Dyer; former spouse Fred Rudat and numerous nieces, nephews, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Winona Blackmore.
Visitation is from 10:00 AM to 11:00 Friday, June 28th with the funeral service following at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Claybanks Township.
