Cecile “Zeke” Brandel, age 90, of Hart passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 in Paw Paw, Michigan.
She was born November 3, 1927 in Elbridge Township, the daughter of Sylvester and Mercile (Lamb) House. She was raised in Shelby and lived there until her marriage to Jack Brandel on June 7, 1947. They lived in several different cities in Michigan during Jack’s career with the Michigan State Police, including Cadillac, South Haven and Alpena before retiring to Hart in 1980. Jack preceded her in death on June 22, 1996. Mrs. Brandel enjoyed doing art work such as oil portraits, landscapes and Christmas cards. She also volunteered in 4H, Camp Fire Girls, PTA, Art League and led singing at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Roger) Newcomb, Robert (Cathy) Brandel, LouAnn (Mike) Vidmar, Beth (Thad) Kaiser and Rev. Mark (Kathy) Brandel; surviving sister Joyce (Frank) Dykman; brother-in-law, Don (Linda) Brandel; thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Harry House and sisters, Jennie Baade, Grace Wittkamp and Doris Brandel.
Visitation is Wednesday, May 2nd at 1 pm with the memorial service starting at 2 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby. Rev. Mark Brandel will be officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity in “Zeke's” name.
