Benjamin C. Liesberg, age 86, of Hart, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility. He was born December 29, 1931 in Detroit to Benjamin and Helen (Smith) Liesberg.
He was raised in the Detroit area. The family moved to a farm just west of Hart in 1946. Ben lived on the farm ever since with the exception of his service in the Air Force. He served in Korea during the Korean War. Ben married Johanna Liesberg on October 25, 1953.
He was employed at the Oceana County Road Commission for thirty-nine years as a truck driver before his retirement. He also grew cherries for many years. He was a good athlete and especially enjoyed playing basketball in high school and later in the “Jelly Belly’s" league in Hart on Sundays. His retirement years also found him spending lots of time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Cathy (Gerry) Hissong, Jo Anne Munoz, Ben Liesberg, Jr., Mike (Pamala) Liesberg and Diane (John) Wabsis; his grandchildren, Jim (Amy) Sweeney, Amanda Sweeney, Juan (Mandy) Munoz, Sondra (Karlan) Young, Casey Liesberg, Cameron Liesberg, Jamie (Jon) Bateson, Nicki (Josh) Alvesteffer and Wade (Kali) Gieske; nineteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Paul Liesberg. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Johanna on September 3, 2008.
The visitation is Saturday, November 3rd, 10 am until the memorial service at 11 am at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby with Pastor John Brooks officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery.
