Barbara Ann Cope, 86, went home to be with the Lord October 5, 2017 in Muskegon, Michigan. She was born September 18, 1931 in Lakewood, Ohio, graduated from Lakewood High School in 1949, and Kent State University with a BA in elementary education. She taught school a few years in Lorain, Ohio, and San Bernardino and Adelanto, California. She then went as a missionary, to the Navajo Gospel Mission near Oraibi, Arizona. There she taught Navajo children for several years. When the school there was closed she moved to Western Indian Ministries in Gallup, New Mexico to teach Navajo children there. During the summer she attended Northern Arizona University and earned her Master's Degree in education. She retired in 1998 and moved to Kalkaska, Michigan and then Shelby, Michigan in order to be close to family. She enjoyed serving at her church, but her main ministry was that of being a faithful prayer warrior.
She is survived by sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Fousek (Mel), and Nancy Payton, nieces Kimberly Southwell (Phil) and Rebecca Konuch (Tim), nephew Thurman Payton (Lisa), 11 great nieces and nephews and 3 great, great nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 14th, beginning at 9 am and followed by the funeral service at 10 am at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby with her nephew, Rev. Thurman Payton officiating. A luncheon will follow the funeral service. There will be viewing on Monday, October 16th, 12 Noon until 1 pm at Liston Funeral Home in North Ridgeville, Ohio followed by interment in Elmhurst Park Cemetery in Avon, Ohio Monday at 2 pm. Please consider Shelby Road Baptist Church or the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (Konuch Account) as a memorial.
