Alice "Joyce" Ricketson, age 88, of Shelby passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 7, 2018. She was born March 20, 1930 in Hart to Elmer and Ada (Riddell) Hetland.
Joyce spent her childhood years in Hart and her teen years in Pentwater. She married Edwin C. Ricketson on September 2, 1950. They lived in Rothbury many years before moving to Shelby upon retirement. Joyce enjoyed camping, canoeing, birds, travel, looking for deer and the fall colors. She loved to create sweatshirts for everyone. She was a member of Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ.
Her husband, Ed passed away on May 17, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her son, Tom Ricketson. She is survived by her son, Gary (Joyce) Ricketson of Shelby; daughter, Karen (Jim) Brown of Shelby; daughter-in-law, Mary Ricketson of Georgetown, Colorado; grandchildren, Mark (Carrie) Ricketson, Travis (Amber) Ricketson, Russell Ricketson, Patricia Ricketson-McRae, Nathan Ricketson, and Brian (Holly) Brown; three stepgrandchildren, Sarah (Austin) Stockman, Lauren (Jason) Rabe and Alissa (Nathaniel Dean) Brown; ten great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bill Hetland and sister, Betty Hasty.
Visitation is Wednesday, October 10th, 6-8 pm at Harris Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 11th, 11 am at Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Dan Barnum-Steggerda officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Shelby. Memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 are appreciated.
