Covid-19 Information

On Monday, March 16, 2020, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a new Executive Order to prohibit all events over 50 people or assemblages in shared indoor spaces of over 50 people beginning at 9:00 A.M. on March 17, and remaining in effect until April 5 at 5:00 p.m. This new order replaces an earlier Executive Order issued that banned assemblages of more than 250 people. It comes on the heels of a new CDC Guidance posted over the weekend recommending limiting events to less that 50 people. The Michigan Funeral Directors Association (MFDA) has obtained clarification that this limitation is to be applied on the per-room (as opposed to a per-building) basis. This limit has the force of law and is sanctionable as a misdemeanor. A copy of this new Executive Order is linked here:

Accordingly, during arrangement conferences MFDA recommends discussing the following options with the family:

  • Limiting events to immediate family
  • Creating guest lists
  • Issuing invitations
  • Staggering Visitation and Service Times
  • Webcasting services

Additionally, during the services themselves, the MFDA recommends the following

  • Practice social distancing by offering seating at least six feet apart
  • Limiting access points to services to accurately count those entering
  • Making sure that queues and lines maintain social distancing

In addition, MFDA recommends suspending the service of food or beverage in the funeral home and re-configuring common food and beverage stations.

We will continue to keep you updated as more guidelines are implemented.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
