Gerald Bernard Eilers

Gerald Bernard Eilers, 86, of Montague,  passed away Friday, March 8, 2024.  He was born August 18, 1937, in Claybanks Township, Montague, the son of Lawrence and Hortense (Bosse) Eilers.

Gerald served in the United States Army as an engineer.  After his honorable discharge, he worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation (M-DOT), building and repairing highways.  After 36 years Gerald was able to retire, having time to go camping with his wife.  This pastime tuned into a job working at Holiday Camping Resort in New Era for several years.  His hobbies include coin collecting, reading about Michigan’s history, and puttering around his yard and pond.

Gerald is survived by: his children, Geoff Eilers, Michael Eilers, Kristine Burns; grandchildren, April Freiberg, Samantha (Jeremy) Blohm, Gerald (Beth) Burns; great-grandchildren, Alex, Gage, Parker, Avery, Rebel, Bailey, Gunner and Ali Mae; brother, Lawrence Eilers Jr.

Gerald was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Beverly (Cram) Eilers; sisters, Joyce Barringer, Ruth Knight; brother George Eilers.

Visitation will be held from 5pm until 7pm, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Harris Funeral Home, 267 North Michigan Avenue, Shelby, Michigan 49455. Interment will be in Flower Creek Cemetery, at 10 am, Saturday, April 6, 2024, with Military Honors.
