Pauline A. “Polly” Lillie, age 87, of Shelby, went to her home in Heaven on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. She was born December 3, 1929 in Tilden, Nebraska, the daughter of George and Hazel (Grant) Mead.
Polly was raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She worked as a legal secretary before marrying Harold Lillie on June 30, 1949 in Council Bluffs. She and her husband served as missionaries for 8 years to the Navaho and Chippewa Indians. She served 25 years as a pastor’s wife at several different churches. After Harold’s death on December 15, 1991, Polly continued to teach and have Bible studies until her last month at Christian Care Assisted Living.
Polly loved to sew and she made the best lemon meringue pies and also made mints for weddings and other special occasions.
The family expresses their deep appreciation to the loving, caring staff at Christian Care in Muskegon, Mi.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Pastor Martin) Valcarcel of Decatur, Alabama, Pastor John (Anne) Lillie of Jonesville, MI, Pastor Stephen (Jean) Lillie of Norton Shores, Pastor Mark (Melanie) Lillie of Pentwater, and Becky (Pastor Mark) Sterken of Shelby; eighteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ann Hopkins of Lincoln, Nebraska. Besides her husband, Polly was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Gwen Mead.
Public visitation will be held Friday, July 14th, 6-8 pm and Saturday, July 15th, from 10 am to 11 am both at Shelby Road Baptist Church. Private interment services will take place prior to the funeral service. All are invited to the funeral service Saturday 1 pm at the church.
