Lorna J. Spitler

Mrs. Lorna J. Spitler, age 86, of Claybanks Township, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017 in New Era, Michigan.

She was born January 22, 1931 in Lansing, the daughter of Herman and Elinor (Kolberg) Sabin.  Lorna lived in Lansing and Farwell in her younger days.  She married John “Jack” Spitler on August 23, 1952 and they lived in Dimondale.  They moved to Claybanks (Whiskey Creek) in 1961.  Jack preceded her in death on February 12, 1998.

Mrs. Spitler loved spending time with her family.  She also enjoyed the lake and taking care of her yard. Other hobbies and past-times she enjoyed were playing cards, sewing, crafting and crocheting.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Bronold of Shelby, Vicky (Ken) Huizenga of New Era, Alan (Debbie) Spitler of Shelby and Linda (Jess) Fuzi of Hudsonville; her sister, Sandy (John) Kucher of Mount Pleasant; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Joshua Spitler; brothers, Dick Sabin, Lieu Sabin and Jack Sabin; and her sister, Rhea Gilbert.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, July 8th, 10 am with the funeral service to follow at 11 am at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby with Pastor Paulette Zoulek officiating.  Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.  Memorials to the Alzheimers Association, 1740 Village Drive, Suite 336, Muskegon, MI 49442,  are appreciated.  You may leave a message for the family at www.harrisfhome.com
